Jocelyn Michelle Brown is a Chicago-based DJ, spinning records under the moniker Clerical Error. Ms. Brown began working at Florida State University’s college radio station, WVFS 89.7 FM, as a disc jockey and member of the news department during her senior year of high school; she subsequently held two radio shifts per week over the course of the next six years. During this time, Ms. Brown also worked as a freelance music journalist, contributing material as a news assistant in the Features department of the Tallahassee Democrat and as a freelance writer, with music reviews published in such magazines as Bust and VenusZine.

Following a move to Chicago in 2003, Ms. Brown spent two years as an intern for hip-hop label Chocolate Industries; she later worked as a publicity coordinator for electronic label Hefty Records. During this period, she also worked as a freelance booking agent for such artists as Eliot Lipp and Daedelus. Ms. Brown worked as an assistant for two video production companies, and later served as a freelance contributor to Chicago Artists’ Resource – a division of the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs. During her tenure with CAR, she moderated several panels for the Musicians at Work series and contributed heavily to the division’s web portal, focusing on issues specific to emerging musicians.

As a founding member of the Peace Party DJ collective, Ms. Brown plays records for charity on a monthly basis at Danny’s Tavern; she also maintains her own biweekly residency at The Charleston, appearing every second and fourth Saturday. Ms. Brown serves as a contributing DJ for the music blog Bird and Whale, curated by Brad Loving (Lobisomem). Recently, she has spun alongside Courtland Green (Sheer Magic), Joshua Abrams (Town and Country/Reminder), Jeff Parker (Tortoise), Dan Bitney (Tortoise) and Wayne Montana (The Eternals), among others.

A native of Pensacola, Florida, Ms. Brown is an Associate Music Producer for DDB Chicago. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Philosophy in Political Science at Northwestern University and resides in Wicker Park.
