The Low Tide Trio (LeRoy Bach, David Hilliard and Matt Lux) push the boundaries of house, soul and funk with an ever-rotating cast of talented guests. This Friday, the band are joined by the following musicians:

This week I’m honored to play records with Leonardo Ciccone! A talented musician in his own right, Leo has contributed heavily to the city’s electronic music community, participating in the recent Mutek and FMEL festivals around town. When he’s not touring as a member of Dark Party or working on new material as a member of Lagos, he can be found creating his own works and playing records with the gentlemen of Fort Wellington Soundsystem. This evening promises to be a good one – come see us.

Every second Monday, Danny’s Tavern hosts Peace Party – an event that directly benefits a different social organization or charity each month. By drinking and dancing, you are helping to make the world a little bit better! Part of the proceeds from the bar go to help each participating organization toward realizing a social goal. This month we’ll be raising funds in support of Rising Tide Chicago, as part of their efforts to stage an Environmental Response to G8/NATO.

One of the things that I love most about Chicago is that everyone here, in one way or another, lives a life that places a strong value upon artistic endeavors. Chicago is a city that works, first and foremost – and it also engenders collaborative works among people inclined to do as much. I’m honored to say that local artist Alex Valentine has invited myself and others to work on a collaborative soundtrack, One for One for One, during the opening reception for his upcoming exhibit at Devening Projects. Man, what a year 2011 was! Great things all – could not be any happier with life right now. I began working with this guy at DDB Chicago, and have met a lot of wonderful, creative people as a result. This in turn inspired me to spend some time thinking about other things that I could do in my own life to foster creativity – specifically with regard to people I already knew who were doing fun things. I began curating a ladies’ DJ night at this place, and have made quite a few new friends along the way. In the spirit of fresh starts, new efforts and creative goals, I’m going to be updating this blog much more often than I have been – both with event information and anything that strikes me creatively. So – let’s get started! Many things afoot for January. All events listed are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Intensity! is an effort on the part of a collective of female DJs in Chicago to interact with one another and members of the community, bringing disparate sounds and styles together in a safe space. Rotating monthly, five ladies will bring their best game to the turntables, playing rare soul, funk, rock, boogie and post-punk – along with everything in between. This month features the following ladies on the decks:

Tickets are $5 for ladies and $7 for gents without an RSVP.
